Air China, which is the sole flag air carrier of the People’s Republic of China, has its headquarters based in the Shunyi district of Beijing. In addition to China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines, Air China is counted among the “Big Three” major Chinese Airlines. Air China operates from its hubs, Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport and Beijing Capital International Airport, to serve destinations in North America, Western Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. The origins of Air China date back to the year 1988 with the establishment of Air China International Corporation. Later on, in October 1988, the Central Government of China drafted a reform plan to merge China Aviation Corporation and China Southwest Airlines with Air China International Corporation. The date 30th September 2004 marks the rebranding of Air China International Corporation to Air China Limited.
