About British Airways Baggage Allowance

British Airways baggage allowance varies depending on the route, cabin class and frequent flyer status of the passenger. BA is liberal with its baggage allowance. This leading airline follows a standard policy for all destinations. The airline allows scheduled passengers to carry 1 handbag, 1 cabin bag, and 1 checked baggage.

All passengers boarding BA flights can carry 1 item of hand luggage and 1 personal item (including a purse or a handbag). The dimensions of your handbag and personal item should not exceed 56 cm * 45 cm * 25 cm and 40 cm * 30 cm * 15 cm, respectively. The combined weight of both items does not have to be more than 23 kg. In case your handbag is more than the given limit, it will go in hold.

The standard checked baggage allowance on BA flights is 23 kg. Your travel cabin determines your checked baggage allowance. Basic Economy fares do not offer any free checked baggage allowance while Economy Class has a provision for 1 free checked baggage allowance. Premium Economy travellers can carry up to 2 checked bags, with the maximum weight of each bag fixed at 23 kg. In both Business Class and First Class, 2 items of checked baggage with the maximum weight of each bag being 32 kg are permissible.

BA Checked Baggage Allowance

The standard checked baggage allowance is 23 kilograms (kg) per bag. The number of checked bags you’re allowed depends on your booking class, cabin, and Executive Club Tier status.
Here’s a breakdown of the checked baggage allowance:

  • Economy Basic: No checked bag included.
  • Economy (with checked bag): 1 bag, up to 23 kg.
  • Premium Economy: 2 bags, up to 23 kg each.

  • First: 3 bags, up to 32 kg each.
  • Gold and Silver Executive Club members, as well as one world Emerald and Sapphire members, may be entitled to additional checked baggage.

Note: If you need to check in more bags than your ticket permits, you can pay to increase your baggage allowance. The cost depends on your destination and the number of additional bags you want to check-in. It’s best to do this through Manage My Booking before arriving at the airport.
