Japan Airlines processes refunds depending on whether they are voluntary refunds or involuntary refunds. As far as involuntary refunds are concerned, you will receive the full fare amount on the unused portion of your ticket. In the case of voluntary refunds, you will be refunded after the cancellation fees and other applicable charges are deducted.

Japan Airlines issues refunds to the person whose name is mentioned on the ticket or the person who paid for the reservation. If the passenger has not paid for the ticket and there is a restriction on refund, then the Carrier will make the refund to the designated person. Japan Airlines reserves the right to refuse a refund if you apply later than 30 days from the ticket expiry date. Refunds are made in the same currency and the same country as the ticket purchase.

When applying for a refund from Japan Airlines, you have to submit the ticket and unused coupons; this rule does not hold in cases of lost tickets. You can apply for a refund from Japan Airlines up to 3 hours after flight departure.
