About Royal Jordanian Airlines
Royal Jordanian Airlines (RJ) is the flag air carrier of Jordan and has its headquarters based in Amman, the capital of Jordan. This premier airline provides scheduled passenger services to four continents from the Queen Alia International Airport, which is its main base. The air carrier became part of the OneWorld airline alliance in the year 2007.
Royal Jordanian Airlines was founded on 9th December 1963 under the name Alia Royal Jordanian Airlines. The airline has been operating since 15th December 1963, after a royal decree from the Late King Hussein. The airline is named after King Hussein’s eldest child, Princess Alia bint Al Hussein of Jordan; she was born on 13th February 1956.
Private shareholders are the founding members of the airline. However, the Jordanian Government took over the control of the company at a later stage. The air carrier was renamed Alia – The Royal Jordanian Airlines Company on 5th February 2001.
Royal Club is the frequent flyer program of Royal Jordanian Airlines; the airline’s loyal customers are eligible for membership to this program.
