SriLankan Airlines (UL) is the national carrier of Sri Lanka and has been holding membership of the Oneworld airline alliance since 1st May 2014. Also, the date 10th December 1979 marks its establishment as Air Lanka after Air Ceylon (the erstwhile Sri Lankan flag airline) suspended operations. After Air Lanka was partially acquired by Emirates in the year 1998, it was rebranded and came to be known by its current name – SriLankan Airlines. The Sri Lankan government acquired all the airline shares from Emirates in the year 2008. The network of SriLankan Airlines spans more than 125 destinations and over 60 countries.
