About Aberdeen International Airport
Aberdeen International Airport (IATA Name: ABZ) is traceable to the Dyce suburb of Aberdeen in Scotland in the United Kingdom. This international airport is currently owned by AGS Airports Limited, which is a joint venture between Ferrovial and AGS Ventures Airports Limited. The previous owner of ABZ was Heathrow Airport Holdings (the erstwhile British Airport Authority ((BAA)).

Besides being a key heliport for the offshore North Sea Oil and Gas Industry, Aberdeen Airport serves as a base for airlines such as Logan Air and Eastern Airways.

The main passenger terminal of Aberdeen Airport operates scheduled and charter holiday flights. And the other four airport terminals provide helicopter operations, which CHC Helicopter, Babcock Mission Critical Services Offshore, NHV, and Bristow Helicopters utilize. More so, an additional small terminal, which lies adjacent to the main passenger terminal, caters to chartered flights to Sumburgh in Shetland for oil companies.

History

The history of Aberdeen International Airport dates back to 28th July 1934 when it was unveiled as Dyce Aerodrome; Eric Gandar Dower established the airport.

ABZ was also transformed into a Royal Air Force station, RAF Dyce (Royal Air Force Dyce), during the Second World War.

Also, the year 1947 marks the nationalization of Aberdeen Airport, after which BAA gained its control.

After the discovery of North Sea oil, the airport started operating helicopters in the year 1967. Over the years, Aberdeen grew to become the largest oil-linked center in Europe, and Aberdeen Airport is now recognized as the largest commercial heliport globally.

The airport was rebranded to Aberdeen International Airport on 8th January 2013.
