About Cardiff Airport
Cardiff Airport (IATA Name: CWL) is the only airport in Wales providing commercial passenger services. Also, this public airport is traced to Rhoose village, next to the sea in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales, nearby to Barry.

History
The history of Cardiff Airport dates back to the year 1951 with the Minister of Civil Aviation, David Rees-Williams, demanding a commercial airport to the developed in Wales. Thereon, an airfield abandoned after the Second World War was found suitable to be converted into a Civilian airport. Thus, in the year 1952, Rhoose Airport was unveiled by Alan Lennox-Boyd, the Minister of Aviation.
Later, on 1st April 1965, the Glamorgan County Council was handed over the control of the airport by the Ministry of Aviation; thereafter, it came to be known as Glamorgan (Rhoose) Airport. And during the 1980s the airport was renamed to Cardiff-Wales Airport.
Later, in April 1995, the airport company underwent privatization due to the planned local government reorganization in Wales. And the company shares were bought by TBI Plc., a property and development firm.
Then, on 2nd March 2009, Cardiff International Airport was rechristened to Cardiff Airport.
The Welsh Government became the owner of Cardiff International Airport Limited (CIAL) in March 2013 after taking over from TBI Limited at a cost of £52 million. The Welsh Government has established WGC Holdco Limited, which is a holding company, for operating CIAL as a private limited company.
Since then, Cardiff Airport has revamped its infrastructure and introduced new routes. As such, the airport runway was extended and Transatlantic links were built. Because of the runway extension, the airport also manages to house the British Airways maintenance facility therein.

You can also reach Cardiff Airport via road from Junction 33 of the M4 (Cardiff West) and several other motorways such as A4232, A4050, A4226, A48, and A4226.
