The City of Derry Airport (IATA Name: LDY) is a regional airport situated towards the northeastern side of Derry, along the south bank of Lough Foyle in Northern Ireland in the United Kingdom. The local name of this airport is Eglington Airport.

History
The City of Derry Airport served as a Royal Air Force base in the Second World War during the 1940s.

Following the war, the military yet had control of the base until the 1950s. However, the original landowners got back some part of their land later on.

Londonderry Eglington Airport is the original name of the airport, although locals would simply refer to it as “Eglington” at that time.

The 1960s saw limited commercial activity ensuing at the airfield with Emerald Airways operating flights to Glasgow.

Thereafter, in the year 1978, Londonberry City Council purchased the airfield for developing its infrastructure to serve the Northwest region of Ireland.

The official opening of the new terminal dates back to March 1994. Additionally, the airport was officially rebranded to the City of Derry Airport by the Derry City Council.
