History

The story of Edinburgh Airport starts from the year 1916 when the Turnhouse Aerodrome was established as a military base during World War One. Then, the year 1918 witnessed the conversion of the airfield into an RAF Turnhouse following the evolution of the Royal Air Force. However, it was during the Second World War when the first runway was developed at the airport while commercial services at the airport started in the year 1947.

Later, in the 1970s, the British Airports Authority (BAA) got control of Edinburgh Airport. Thereafter, the Queen officiated the first terminal in the year 1977.
