History
The origins of London Gatwick date back to the 1930s, with the unveiling of the Surrey Aero Club. After four years, it obtained its license to operate as a public aerodrome, serving Paris and London Croydon Airport.
Later, in the year 1939, the Air Ministry commissioned the airport to serve as a base for RAF and Army squadrons during the Second World War. Then, the year 1946 saw the decommissioning of Gatwick Airport, after which it was used for civil services, including charter flights and cargo solutions.
The year 1950 marks the recognition of London Gatwick as London’s second airport. Thereon, after undergoing renovation, the Queen officiated the new Gatwick in the year 1958.
Over the years, Gatwick Airport has been revamped to cater to more passengers and aircrafts, including runway and baggage reclaim hall extensions.
