Glasgow Airport, or Glasgow International Airport, (IATA Name: GLA) is traced to Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, United Kingdom.

Glasgow Airport operates about 30 airlines providing flights to more than 100 global destinations. These include the Caribbean, the USA, the Gulf, Europe, and Canada. Along with being the main long-haul airport in Scotland, GLA is also the largest charter hub of this second-largest country in the United Kingdom.

History

The date 2nd May 1966 marks the launch of Glasgow Airport and it was officiated by Queen Elizabeth II on 27th June 1966. Glasgow Corporation had the responsibility of operating the airport initially. Later, on 1st April 1975, the transfer of ownership from Glasgow Corporation to the British Airports Authority was initiated.

Also, HRH, Princess Royal, inaugurated the extension to the main airport terminal on 15th June 1992.

In July 2006, a team headed by Ferrovial acquired BAA plc as part of a £10 billion deal; the syndicate was later renamed to Heathrow Airport Holdings.

Transportation

Glasgow Airport is reachable via road through the neighbouring motorways. If you are heading East, take the M8 at the Junction 28 exit. Those travelling westwards should exit the airport via Junction 29.

Moreover, you can avail of taxi services from Glasgow Airport; the taxi stand is located outside the airport terminal building.
