About Heathrow Airport Terminal 3
Terminal 3 (T3) of Heathrow Airport is mainly used for long-haul flights. Also, T3 has been serving as the main global hub of British Airways (along with Terminal 5) and Iberia – both of which are International Airlines Group members – since 12th July 2022. Moreover, most members of the SkyTeam and Oneworld Alliance, along with many long-haul non-affiliated air carriers, operate flights from this terminal. Besides, Terminal 3 is also the base for Virgin Atlantic Airways.
History
The date 13th November 1961 marks the launch of Oceanic Terminal, which was developed to manage flight departures for long-haul routes. Later, in the year 1968, the terminal was renamed to Terminal 3. Also, in the year 1970, the terminal was expanded to include an Arrivals building.
Moreover, the first moving walkways of the United Kingdom were among other facilities that were added to T3 over time. Additionally, through the 1960s and 1970s, BOAC and 2 US airlines – including Trans World Airlines (TWA) and Pan American World Airways – ran their operations via this terminal.
The year 1969 saw the renovation of this terminal for handling the new Boeing 747, which was unveiled at LHR on 23rd January 1970. Thereafter, during the 1990s, Pan American World Airways and TWA sold their Heathrow landing rights to United Airlines and American Airlines respectively.
Usage
Virgin Atlantic mainly uses Terminal 3. Other than that, Cathay Pacific, British Airways, Iberia, Qantas, KLM, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, Air France, and Emirates are among other airlines that operate through Terminal 3.
Terminal 3 of London Heathrow Airport is primarily reserved for long-haul flights. The only airlines operating short-haul flights via Terminal 3 are KLM, Iberia, British Airways, Finnair, and Air France.
- Oneworld
Among members of the Oneworld airline alliance that use Terminal 3 are Japan Airlines, Iberia, Cathay Pacific, Royal Jordanian, American Airlines, Sri Lankan Airlines, Qantas, and Finnair.
Additionally, British Airways provides flight operations from this terminal, though most BA flights fly from Terminal 5. Since 12th July 2022, Terminal 3 is one of the global hubs of the International Airlines Group.

There are 6 SkyTeam member airlines that use Terminal 3 currently. These include Virgin Atlantic, Middle East Airlines, Air France, Aeroméxico, and Delta Air Lines.
- Non-aligned
Emirates is the main non-aligned airline that uses Terminal 3. LATAM Brasil, Iran Air, and Beijing Capital Airlines are other non-aligned airlines operating from this terminal. In addition to that, Biman Bangladesh Airlines has been operating from Terminal 3 since the year 2021 onwards.

Terminal 3 of Heathrow Airport is well-connected via rail, bus, and road. Passengers can use rail or bus service to commute between the different terminals of LHR and other destinations in the United Kingdom. This terminal is also linked to the M4 motorway for those travelling by car to their destination.
