History
Humberside Airport was requisitioned as a Royal Air Force Base, under the name RAF Kirmington, during the 1940s at the time of the Second World War. Following the war, the airport site lay unused from the year 1945 until the 1970s. The local council established the Kirmington Airport at this site in the year 1974.
Later on, as a result of the local government restructuring plans, the local area came to be known as Humberside. This led to the rebranding of Kirmington Airport to Humberside Airport.
Over the years, Humberside Airport has undergone many developments, including the extension of the main runway, for operating large-sized aircrafts.
Also, MAG purchased the airport in the year 1999. Even so, the year 2012 saw MAG selling its 83.7 percent share in the airport to the Eastern Group for £2.3 million.
