Airport

Jersey Airport (IATA Name: JER) is traceable to the parish of Saint Peter, along the northwest part of Saint Helier in Jersey in the Channel Islands.

Jersey Airport operates scheduled passenger flights to a host of destinations spanning Europe and the United Kingdom.

History

Jersey Airways and Imperial Airways were providing air services in Jersey before the Second World War. However, the conditions were difficult, which led to the opening of Jersey Airport with four grass runways on 10th March 1987.

Later, the Admiralty gained control of Jersey Airport, which was then used as a Naval Air Station called RNAS Jersey. However, this unit was closed on 31st May 1940 when German occupied France. Then, the German forces occupied the airport on 1st July 1940.

Nonetheless, after the end of the Second World War, the airport resumed civil flight services. Also, over the years, it has been upgraded with terminal additions as well as extensions and a new air traffic control tower.

Jersey Airport is a member of the Common Travel Area program. Hence, the airport has limited identity checks before flights to the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland.
