About Leeds Bradford Airport
Leeds Bradford Airport (IATA Name: LTA) is traceable to Yeadon within the City of Leeds Metropolitan District, West Yorkshire, England. LBA operates flights to Leeds and Bradford, along with the bigger Yorkshire region encompassing Harrogate, Wakefield, and York. Also, the international network of LBA includes a host of European destinations.

LBA is the largest airport in the Yorkshire region, which comes in the Northern part of England in the United Kingdom.

History

The councils of Leeds and Bradford jointly purchased the airport site in the year 1930. The date 17th October 1931 marks the launch of Yeadon Aerodrome or Leeds and Bradford Municipal Aerodrome; local people still know it as Yeadon Airport.

The first scheduled flight from Yeadon Airport dates back to 8th April 1935.

Yeadon Aerodrome also contributed to Second World War efforts after Civil Aviation Services were interrupted in the year 1939; it was used by an aircraft factory to deliver planes during wartime.

Later on, the year 1947 saw the airport resuming Civilian Services while it started serving new routes including Belfast, Dublin, and Düsseldorf.

The redevelopment of the airport was completed in the year 1985 and this included runway extensions, the creation of a new tunnel, and new terminal development. All this helped the airport in getting regional status.

Thereafter, in the year 1987, LBA became a public limited company with five boroughs having shares in the airport; these include Bradford (40%), Leeds (40%), Calderdale (20%), Wakefield (20%), and Kirklees (20%).

Leeds Bradford Airport was a public-owned enterprise until the year 2007, after which it was purchased by Bridgepoint Capital as part of a £145.5 million deal. In the year 2017, AMP Capital took over the airport from Bridgepoint. Following this takeover, LBA has largely been revamped.

Presently, Leeds Bradford Airport caters to 4 million passengers every year, with indications that the airport will be equipped to handle 7 million passengers per year by the year 2030.
