About London Luton Airport

London Luton Airport (IATA Name: LTN) is traceable to Luton in Bedfordshire in England in the United Kingdom. London Luton Airport Limited (LLAL) is the owner of this international airport, which mostly serves European countries. However, LCN also operates charter and scheduled flights to other countries such as Asia and Europe.

Luton Airport is recognized as the fourth-largest airport among airports serving the various London districts, following Heathrow Airport, Gatwick airport, and Stansted airport.

Luton Airport contains a single, two-storey terminal building. Moreover, there are 60 stands for parking air carriers and 28 gates.

History
The date 16th July 1938 marks the inauguration of Luton Municipal Airport by Kingsley Wood, who was the then Secretary of State of Air.

LCN was also used by the Royal Air Force (RAF) during the Second World War. The airport resumed commercial operations after it was returned to the Local Council thereafter in the year 1952.

In the year 1985, Charles III (the then Prince of Wales) opened a new international terminal at the airport.

Later, the year 1990 saw the airport being renamed to its current name – London Luton Airport.

Also, through the 1990s, Luton Airport started operating My Travel Group, a Charter Operator. Additionally, new low-fare scheduled flights from air carriers such as EasyJet and Debonair began operations from the airport around the same time. These factors contributed to a rise in passenger numbers at Luton Airport; hence, LCN became the fastest-growing major airport in the UK.

Through the years, Luton’s infrastructure has constantly been revamped to cater to higher passenger numbers. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip unveiled a new terminal at Luton Airport at a cost of £40 million during the month of November 1999. A new control tower, automated baggage facility, air control systems, and runway extensions have also been added.
