Thereafter, in the year 1939, the airport was requisitioned by the Air Ministry to serve as a satellite airfield under the name RAF Rochford during World War II

The year 1993 marks the sale of the airport by Southend Borough Council to Regional Airports Limited because of losses. Moreover, London Southend Airport Company Limited was formed to handle the airport operations under its new brand name “London Southend Airport” during that time.
