Manchester Airport has been operating since 25th June 1938 and it was previously known as Ringway Airport. The 10 Greater Manchester councils are joint owners of Manchester Airport. While Manchester Council holds 55% per cent stake in Manchester Airport, the rest 9 authorities each have a 5% per cent stake in the airport.

Spread over an area of 1,400 acres, Manchester Airport provides flight operations to over 195 destinations, taking thirteenth place among airports serving the highest number of destinations globally.

Manchester Airport operates as a hub for airlines including Virgin Atlantic and Aer Lingus.

Passenger Terminals

Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 of Manchester Airport are linked via Skylink, which includes travelators to help passengers cover the 10-15 minute walking distance. Moreover, Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 are connected via a covered walkway. The Skylink also interconnects the airport terminals to the airport railway station complex (called “The Station”) along with the Radisson BLU Hotel.

Terminal 1

Terminal 1 is the second-largest terminal of Manchester Airport. Airlines operate scheduled and charter flights to European and other global destinations from this airport terminal.

Terminal 2

Terminal 2 of Manchester Airport contains 16 gates and 20 air bridges. Several airlines use Terminal 2 of Manchester Airport to operate scheduled and charter flights to a host of European and international destinations.

The year 1993 marks the opening of this terminal, as well as the Manchester Airport Station, by the Duke of Edinburgh.

Terminal 3

Terminal 3 of Manchester Airport has been renamed several times since it started operations in the year 1989. This terminal was initially known as Terminal A and Princess Diana, Princess of Wales, inaugurated it. Over the years, this terminal was renamed to Terminal A, Domestic, and Terminal 1A. Finally, it came to be known as Terminal 3 in the year 1998.

British Airways, Vueling, Iberia Express, Eastern Airways, Aurigny, Ryanair, Logan Air, and Flybe manage flights from Terminal 3 of Manchester Airport.

PremiAir VIP Terminal
The PremiAir VIP terminal of Manchester Airport has been operating since 21st October 2019 and lies adjacent to the Runway Visitor Park. The terminal services include limousine shuttle service to flights. Also, passengers can access lounge services at the airport.

World Freight Terminal
The World Freight Terminal of Manchester Airport serves cargo-only freighter services and cargo for standard passenger flights. Since the year 1986, this terminal has been providing cargo and freight services.

Runways
Manchester Airport contains 2 parallel runways: Runway 1 and Runway 2. Both these airport runways are located sufficiently apart to allow landings on one runway and take-offs on the other runway.

Control Tower
Manchester Airport unveiled a new control tower standing tall at 60m on 25 June 2013. This tower is the second-tallest control tower in the United Kingdom, following the 87m high London Heathrow control tower.
